Belgian music festival VestiVille has been compared to the infamous Fyre Festival after it was cancelled on opening day.

The festival , which was due to kick off on Friday in Kristal Park, Lommel, had a line-up including Jason Derulo, Migos, Cardi B and Meek Mill.

However, after A$AP Rocky brought safety concerns to light, organisers announced the festival was cancelled.

In a statement, Rocky said:

“I won’t be performing today due to security and infrastructure concerns which relate to the production of the show.

“The promoters told me it would be handled but unfortunately for you and me they didn’t.”

Festival organisers later issued a statement in a series of tweets, saying that it was the mayor of Lommel who had made the decision to not let the festival go ahead.

They added that “the safety of the artist and the public could not be guaranteed” after a “consultation with the security services and ASAP Rocky’s security officer.”

Organisers are reportedly consulting with the festival’s official partners in regards to customer refunds.

According to The Brussels Timesa number of ticket holders spent the night on the festival’s grounds before they were shuttled to the railway station on Saturday.

Many people began to take to Twitter to comment about the situation – and to compare it to Fyre Festival, the now-infamous luxury festival that turned out to be anything but.

Other festival-goers shared photos and videos of their experiences on Twitter.
