BREAKING: Fatalities reported as gunman holds hostages in French supermarket

A police officer has reportedly been killed.

A masked gunman has taken in hostages in a south west French supermarket.

According to Sky News, the gunman has claimed allegiance to ISIS, and shot a policeman at the scene, as well as an employee of the supermarket, Super U.

The suspect was heard shouting ‘Vengeance for Syria’ before launching the rampage in the region of Trebes.

A source in the town said: "A butcher in the U-Supermarket has been shot dead.

"The gunman was heard shouting slogans about the war in Syria. He says he is representing Islamic State."

The incident happened shortly after 11am and police are currently at the scene. It is not thought the man is working alone.
