This is a breaking story.

All planned Irish Rail strikes have been suspended for the rest of the year.

Iarnród Éireann has just announced that this afternoon it received the Labour Court’s recommendation on the current trade union pay claim.

Because of this, it said that the strikes planned for the end of the month and the start of December will not go ahead.

So, if you take the train to work or college, you’re saved from travel chaos on November 14 and 23, and December 8.

This will include DART, Commuter and Intercity services.

It will also mean trains will go ahead for the Republic of Ireland v Denmark World Cup play-off on November 14.

Iarnród Éireann said in a statement: “The company thanks the Labour Court for arranging a hearing of the issues surrounding the current dispute, and for the urgency with which it considered the submissions and issued its recommendation.

“This has ensured that after two days of industrial action, customers will not suffer any further disruption in the immediate term.

“The company is reviewing the Court’s recommendation in the context of its challenging financial position.”
