The Food Safety Authority has warned the products may contain the harmful bacteria.

Both Dunnes Stores and Spar have recalled some of their own-brand pesto products this week due to the possible presence of salmonella.

Customers were told that the products are being recalled as a “precautionary measure” and if they have any of the items, they should return them immediately.

The recall notice was issued on Friday.

As per the Food Safety Authority’s statement:

“As a precautionary measure, Dunnes Stores and Spar are initiating a recall of their own brand pestos, due to the possible presence of Salmonella. Consumers who have bought the implicated batches should dispose of the product or return it to the place of purchase.”

The Dunnes Stores products are both the 130g containers of Basil Pesto, with a use-by date of July 2, 2018 to September 25, 2018; and Tomato Pesto, with use-by dates between July 5, 2018 and September 30, 2018.

The Spar products are the 125g containers of Basil Pesto, with use-by dates between July 2, 2018 and September 30, 2018; and Red Pesto, with use-by dates between July 5, 2018 and September 30, 2018.
