UPDATE: English footballer Adam Johnson has been found guilty of one count of sexual activity with a child and not guilty of another count of the same offence.

Earlier Johnson was found not guilty of the first count of sexual activity with a child and one count of grooming at Bradford Crown Court this afternoon.

Ther former Sunderland footballer had pleaded guilty to grooming a 15-year-old girl and one charge of sexual activity with her, but denied  two further charges of sexual activity with a child.

The charges relate to an incident in Johnson’s Range Rover on January 30, last year, after he met up with the girl in County Durham.

The 28-year-old admitting to kissing the teenager, but told the court that the encounter went no further.

Judge Jonathan Rose began summing up the evidence in the case on Monday and he concluded this afternoon, telling the jury:

“When you retire, you must reach verdicts on which you are all agreed.

“I can only accept unanimous verdicts in this case. 12-0 is the only possible score.”

Judge Rose had previously told the court that Johnson had told lies during his defense, but that this did not necessarily indicate guilt.
