Lindburgh was born in Poland in the 1940s. He moved to Berlin in his teens to study photography and later to Paris to pursue his career in the late 1970s.

His work appeared in many major fashion magazines over the years including Vogue and Vanity Fair. He also directed several award winning films and documentaries.

Recently, he collaborated with the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle during her guest editor role for Vogue’s September issue, Voices For Change.

The Duchess paid tribute to Lindbergh this afternoon, saying that there was “no other photographer she considered to bring this meaningful project to life.”

“His work is revered globally for capturing the essence of a subject and promoting healthy ideals of beauty, eschewing photoshopping, and preferring natural beauty with minimal makeup,” reads the SussexRoyal Instagram account.

“Beyond that, what made him truly one of a kind was his consistent kindness, warmth, and incredible sense of humour,” she said. “One of the best human beings I have ever met. I will never forget you my friend.”

Edward Enninful, editor of UK Vogue said: “His ability to see real beauty in people, and the world, was ceaseless, and will live on through the images he created.”

“He will be missed by everyone who knew him, worked with him or loved his pictures.”
