A 15-year-old Wexford schoolgirl is recovering this week from a serious assault in which she was stabbed in the stomach with a Benylin bottle.

The Irish Mirror is reporting that the teenager, who was due to sit her Junior Certificate exams, was approached by two Eastern European men in an alleyway while on her way to visit a neighbour’s house in the Clonard Village estate on Saturday night. The men allegedly asked the girl for a cigarette and, when she declined, took the bottle she was carrying, smashed it in half and stabbed her several times in the stomach.

The injured girl then managed to call a friend for help before being taken to Wexford General Hospital where was treated for her injuries. It is understood that she did not suffer any internal injuries.

Gardai are now carrying out an investigation into the assault and have released descriptions of the two men.
Both are said to be approximately 5 foot 8 inches in height and of medium build. One was dressed in black, while the other wore a grey top and Adidas tracksuit, and both were wearing camouflage coloured cowl neck scarves.

Anyone who may have any information is asked to contact Wexford Garda Station on 053-9165200.
