The event takes place in Ennis, County Clare next month.

It’s been revealed that Gardaí have been in contact with Interpol over concerns of a terrorist incident at this year’s Fleadh Cheoil.

Authorities are taking precautions in the wake of other public events in Europe being targeted in recent months.

Supt Brendan McDonagh told The Mirror that the force in Ennis is in very regular contact with the international police agency, as well as forces in the UK, France and other European countries.

He added that there will be a strong and visible Garda presence at the Fleadh and that back-up from other counties would be called upon of necessary.

Meanwhile, the event’s controller said that plans have been put in place to deal with a terror attack.

“Those conversations have happened. I am confident Clare Gardaí have been briefed at the highest level,” said Adrian Jackson.

“I am confident the Gardaí have structures in place for this threat,” he added.

Up to half a million people are set to descend on the County Clare town for the traditional music event, which will run from 13 to 21 August.
