Gardaí are investigating after a newborn baby girl was rushed to hospital with what have been described as severe head injuries caused by a suspected assault.
According to reports the six-week-old child received said injuries, the details of which have not been confirmed, in Galway on Monday.
She was taken to University Hospital Galway before being transferred to Temple Street Children’s Hospital where she remains.
A man, thought to be in his early 30s and known to the child, was arrested and questioned. He was later released without charge.
The investigation into the matter is ongoing and a file will be prepared for the DPP.
