Gardaí release two arrested in connection with Ashling Murphy case

They had been arrested on suspicion of withholding information.

Two people who had been arrested in connection with an investigation into the murder of Ashling Murphy have since been released.

Yesterday, a man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of withholding information.

As the Irish Times reports, they were held under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act, but they have been subsequently released.

A file on them will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

A Garda statement read: “Gardaí investigating a fatal assault, which occurred in Tullamore on the 12th January 2022, have released without charge the man and a woman, both aged in their 60s, that were arrested on Wednesday 2nd March 2022 in connection with the investigation.

“A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

“Investigations are ongoing.”

Ms Murphy was attacked and killed while running along the Grand Canal in Tullamore, Co. Offaly on 12 January.

One man, Josef Puzka, has been charged with her murder. He is due to appear in court on 9 March.
