This will be of benefit to everyone.

Gardaí have revealed the details of an imitative to crack down on speeding this weekend. On An Garda Síochána have announced that this Friday, October 21, will be a designated Slow Down Day, aimed at reminding all drivers of the dangers of speeding, to comply with speed limits and to deter driving at excessive speeds.

Last year, over 115,003 vehicles were checked, with 451 motorists fined for speeding during a 24 hour period.

This year, motorists are asked to comply and show their support for Slow Down Day by posting a thumbs up image to @gardatraffic and An Garda Síochána’s Facebook page or by emailing it to [email protected].

A statement from the Gardaí reads:

The key message to “Slow Down” and, whether driving for business or private purposes, to always drive within the speed limit and at a speed appropriate to the prevailing conditions.

The Gardaí have also designed activities for children to take part in the day.

As part of the campaign, children are being asked to:

– submit suggestions to name the newest Garda member (see below);
