Garth Brooks has slammed the debacle surrounding his five Croke Park dates, saying that it is “not ok” that the hopes of 160,000 people were raised.

The country music singer addressed the controversy during a press conference to announce the release of a new album with Sony Music and a world tour.

Opening the conference by saying that he was “under a cloud right now… but we hope the joy will eventually shine”, Brooks went on to say that he had “never been treated as less than a king by Ireland or its people” and admitted that he had “no idea” where the planned events had run into trouble.

He continued to add that he had always endeavoured to treat everybody equally and added that although “the people who can fix this are not here”, he would “swim, crawl… get down on my knees and beg” to Enda Kenny to reach a resolution.

However, when asked if the cancellation would deter him from booking future dates in Ireland, he said that he “could not talk about a future with Ireland until Ireland has a system that works”, adding “I’m the big loser in this one, I’m the one who is out of the greatest experience of my life”.

“I don’t know how you work over there but over here we work for the people,” he added. “The system is flawed.”
