According to Extra.ie homeless campaigner Fr Peter McVerry spoke out about the tragic situation and said;
"We can’t link the deaths to their living situation, but it was possibly a contributory factor. For a family living in emergency accommodation, it is very stressful and distressful. To have a tragedy like this, it compounds their distress. It’s intolerable. This family on compassionate grounds should be given a council house."The mother has three other children and has been in emergency accommodation with her children and husband for a year. A garda investigation has been launched into the heartbreaking case. Medical tests have indicated that the twins were born two months prematurely. Ireland is currently in the grip of a serious homeless crisis with more and more families becoming forced into emergency accommodation with no real solution on how to get back out again. Recent figures showed that almost 10,000 people, including children, have been living in B&Bs this year alone. Our thoughts are with the family involved at this very sad time.
