A man had two fingers and a thumb cut off in an assault in Waterford yesterday afternoon.
It is believed that the man was beaten before his fingers and thumb were cut off with either a knife or a saw.
According to
RTÉ, the man was attacked by "at least two men" in the Priory Lawn Estate area at approximately 2:50pm.
He is currently being treated at Cork Univeristy Hospital where he has had surgery.
A stolen car was used to make a getaway from the scene but it was later found by Gardaí who are currently examining it.
An investigation is underway into the attack, including house-to-house enquiries, but no arrests have been made yet.
