“We are working as hard as ever on Steven Avery’s case.”
Kathleen Zellner, the lawyer of Steven Avery, has said there is a “huge amount of new evidence” in his case.
59-year-old Avery, who was made famous for being the subject of Netflix’s Making A Murderer, remains in prison for the murder of Theresa Halbach in 2005. However, he has always been adamant that he is innocent.
Avery’s legal team have been working for years to appeal his conviction but have not been successful.
Now, Zellner has taken to Twitter to assure people she is continuing to work as “hard as ever” in the fight for justice.
“Just in case any of you are wondering we are working as hard as ever on Steven Avery’s case,” she wrote. “We will be filing a new petition with a huge amount of new evidence. We will never give up pounding on the doors of justice for him #TruthWins.”

Avery claims that he was framed for the murder by the Manitowoc County Police Department.
He had previously sued the department for wrongful conviction for a different crime in 2003, and believes this was motive for them to frame him again.
Steven’s nephew, 32-year-old Brendan Dassey, was also convicted for the murder and remains in prison after what many considered a false and coerced confession.
However, 2021 was quite an eventful year for Avery and his legal team, with a number of developments made in the case – sparking some hope that he may be freed soon.
In April, a delivery driver came forward and said they had seen Bobby Dassey (Brendan’s brother) with an unknown bearded man in his 50s-60s pushing a Toyota RAV-4 (the car Teresa Halbach was driving the day of her disappearance) onto the Avery property in the early hours of 5 November 2005.
At the end of Making A Murderer season two, Bobby Dassey became a person of interest when Zellner discovered violent and indecent pornography on his computer. This groundbreaking witness statement now places him at the scene of the crime.
Next, Brad Dassey, who is Brendan and Bobby’s half-brother, spoke out about how he believed his uncle Steven was innocent. He suspected that his step-mother, Barb Tadych, might have something to do with the case and had wiped Bobby’s laptop before it was seized by authorities.
Any updates in the case will undoubtedly be explored in Making A Murderer season three – which has been hinted at but not yet confirmed.
