Legendary Irish fashion designer Paul Costelloe has died at the age of 80.
Costelloe, who presented collections at London Fashion Week for the last 35 years, was one of the best-known names in Irish and British fashion.
He died last night in London.
His family confirmed his passing, writing that they were 'deeply saddened'.
They said: "He was surrounded by his wife and seven children and passed peacefully in London."
Costelloe's career started at the Grafton Academy of Fashion Design. He then travelled around Milan, Paris, New York, and London.
He set up his own label, Paul Costelloe Collections, in 1979.
Costelloe was appointed as personal designer to Princess Diana in 1983 and collaborated with her until Diana's untimely passing in 1997.
His family have asked for privacy at this difficult time.
Tributes have been pouring in since news of his passing broke this afternoon.
Simon Harris stated, "He leaves behind a body of work that shaped modern Irish fashion and will continue to shape it in the years to come. He will be greatly missed and warmly remembered."
Irish designer Edel MacBride added, “Deeply saddened to hear Paul Costelloe has died after a short illness. Since meeting him as the external examiner 40 years ago in Limerick, working with him on men’s and ladies collections knitwear I blame him for everything. Adieu Maestro and gentleman.”
