Irish teenager left in A&E after using knock-off Kylie Lip Kit

A cautionary tale.

We all love a dupe, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

An Irish girl is warning others after her face and lips became swollen from using a knock-off Kylie Lip Kit.

18-year-old Rachael McLaughlin from Belfast found herself needing urgent medical attention over the product.

She had bought the Lip Kit on a buy-and-sell page on Facebook, reports Belfast Live.

The best-selling set, sold by Kylie Jenner’s brand, retails for $29 (€23.50/ £20.86), while Rachael’s fake one cost her just £3 (€3.38).

She put it on on Friday night ahead of a night out with her friends but soon started to feel unwell.

Rachael stayed in, but woke up the next morning to find her lips and lower face swollen and that her throat had closed up.

Her family immediately took her to A&E, where she was given strong antibiotic cream for her lips and antihistamines.

“It’s not an experience I would ever wish on anyone,” the teenager told the publication.

“The reason I went to the hospital was because I couldn’t breathe.

“My blood pressure was very high as well.”

Rachael’s older sister Bronagh has urged anyone who has bought knock-off makeup to throw it out as they can’t know what ingredients they might contain.

“This could have ended up with a fatality if not treated as soon as it was, this didn’t just affect the lips but also the whole face and closed over the back of her throat,” she said.
