Joseph Gordon-Levitt has launched a new campaign in an effort to encourage widespread discussion on feminism.
The Don Jon actor publicly declared himself a feminist earlier this year and this week announced that he will be using an episode of his US television show HitRecord to explore the issue, asking people to submit videos of themselves taking about what feminism means to them.
Gordon-Levitt added that following a mixed reaction to his public statements on feminism, he had realised that there are varied views on the movement, with some women feeling that it is judgemental of women who choose to be full-time mothers and others being of the opinion that it is irrelevant as there is no longer inequality in society.
“To me, it just means that your gender doesn’t have to define who you are, that you can be whatever you want to be, whoever you want to be, regardless of your gender,” he said.
