A jogger, who heard crying while out on her morning run, discovered a baby strapped to her car seat dumped at the side of a road.
The missing eight month old Genesis Hailey had been seated in the back of her mother’s car in Houston, Texas, when it was stolen from a petrol station.
It is believed the baby was dumped there six hours earlier, with the car abandoned separately.
The mother told police she had run in to pay the cashier, and left the child sleeping in the back seat with the engine running, when the car was stolen.
Police don’t believe the man hijacking the car was aware of the baby in the back seat.
Jogger Hong Nguyen told local news station KHOU TV that she rang the police immediately, as it was her ‘duty as a human being’.
Police officers confirmed that the baby was found in good health, but was hungry and had ant bites to her body.
They have yet to catch the man who stole the car and dumped the baby.
