"This was a modern love story. Boy meets girl. Boy falls in love with girl. Boy marries girl. Girl cuts off boy's penis."
Time to mark the calendars, Amazon has released the trailer for their new true crime docuseries and it looks incredibly intense.
Lorena will examine the story of Lorena Bobbitt - the woman who made headlines in 1993 when she cut off her husband's penis in the middle of the night - and challenge "the long-held narrative that surrounded this event."
The case made headlines across the world, and Lorena was ultimately acquitted on the grounds of temporary insanity caused by years of abuse from her husband.
The four-part series promises to bring new light to one of the most "sensationalised" news stories ever. Both Lorena and John appear in the trailer, sitting for separate interviews and recalling the traumatic case.
“I didn’t choose to be in the spotlight,” Lorena says. “But there’s no going back.”

According to Amazon:
"The series provides a fresh perspective on the story of Lorena Bobbitt and exposes how this event laid the groundwork for the modern 24-hour news cycle and increasing sensationalistic media coverage.
"Lost in tabloid coverage and late-night talk show jokes, the Bobbitt story was a missed opportunity for a national discussion on domestic and sexual assault in America.
"Lorena is a ground-breaking re-investigation of the deep moral issues and painful human tragedies buried at the heart of this infamous American scandal."
Filmaker Joshua Rofé directed the docuseries, while Academy Award winner Jordan Peele was executive producer.
