Lexy Thornberry first rose to fame when she was on the 2021 series of Love Island Australia, and has accumulated quite the following since.
Lexy revealed she would soon be starting chemotherapy and radiation treatment for her head and neck cancer.
She shared an emotional message on her Instagram, detailing what the next few weeks have in store for her.
She wrote: "I am 24 years old and I have been diagnosed with cancer. No, sadly, I’m not joking. They put me in a robe for my X–ray.
"I thought it was so dramatic. A couple of days later, I was diagnosed with head and neck cancer… I’m a Pilates instructor and I teach people how to live healthy lives.
"There’s nothing I did wrong, nothing that could have prevented it. It’s just the luck of the draw. But it is something I will FIGHT.
Lexy then asked her followers not to pry or ask too many questions.
"I am starting treatment and ask people to respect my privacy during this extremely difficult time," she said.
She continued: "This is all I’m willing to share at the moment and ask everybody to keep their questions to themselves."
Friends and family were quick to fill the comments with heartfelt messages of support.
One wrote: “You will beat this lovely Lexy,” while another added: "You’re so strong & brave, love you guys so much sending the biggest cuddles your way."
Someone else commented: "Omg Lexy, you are the strongest girl I have met with a beautiful soul. I’ll be praying for you, you got this, girl, and you’ll get through it. Lots of love."
The sad news doesn’t come long after the Love Island star announced she had got engaged to professional boxer David Nyika, who popped the question back in May while they were on a romantic getaway in Mexico.
