Kate McCann has revealed that she “feels closest” to her missing daughter Madeleine in the Algarve, and believes that she is still there.

Nine years on from Madeleine McCann’s disappearance from the holiday resort of Praia de Luz in Algarve, Portugal, Kate McCann has maintains that she and Madeleine’s father Gerry will “never give up” hope of finding their daughter.

Speaking to The Sun, Kate, who is ambassador for charity Missing People, revealed that her extensive research into missing persons cases has led her to believe that abducted children are not usually taken far from the scene.

She said:

“That’s (The Algarve) where she last was and I don’t think she’s been taken a million miles from there.

“I’ve always said Praia da Luz is the place where I feel closest to her. It’s all only speculation, but we’ve learned that’s usually the case.

“You hear all the time about people who have been missing for years being found. There have been so many cases like that.

“We will never give up. You couldn’t settle if you thought about giving up. I want an end, an answer. Whatever that it is.”

Kate is leading a two-week appeal for those living in the UK to register for Child Rescue Alerts, a free scheme run by the Royal Mail which sends early alerts when a child is reported missing.

Madeleine McCann went missing from her holiday home in Praia de Luz in May 2007.

Last year, it was announced that the number of MET police officers working on the case was reduced from 29 to four.
