Two Burmese men have reportedly admitted to killing British backpackers Hannah Witheridge and David Miller.
The news comes only a matter of weeks after the semi-naked bodies of the two Britons were found on Sairee beach on the island of Koh Tao in Thailand.
Mr Miller (24) died from drowning and a blow to the head while Miss Witheridge (23) is said to have died from head wounds.
The confessions came when three suspects were detained and asked to give DNA samples.
According to Sky News, Deputy National Police Chief Lieutenant General Jaktip Chaijinda said: “The investigation has advanced considerably.
“Three Burmese workers were detained and we took their DNA for testing. During the investigation one of them admitted to killing the two foreigners.”
He added: “We still have to wait for DNA test results which we expect to have in 14 hours from now in order to confirm this.”
Police had previously said that they believed three men were involved in the attack. Earlier this week, they said that Miss Witheridge had been raped by her two killers after two different semen samples were collected from her body.
