A man has been charged with the murder of his 88-year-old mother following a fatal assault in Clontarf, Dublin.
The man, 61-years-old, appeared before a special sitting of Dublin District Court yesterday evening.
RTÉ News reports that the man was cautioned at 5.40pm and charged with murder at 6pm.
Gardaí have said the investigation is ongoing.
The incident occurred on Sunday following the discovery of a body of an elderly woman in a house in Kincora Court, Clontarf, Dublin 3. She had suffered fatal injuries.
The man was arrested at the scene. He will undergo psychiatric assessment following his arrival at Cloverhill prison.
