A man has been rushed to hospital this evening after attempting to take his own life outside Leinster House.
The incident is believed to have taken place shortly after 4pm, with TD Finian McGrath telling The Journal that it was initially thought that the man was trying to hang a banner outside Government buildings.
However, it soon became clear that the man was attempting to hang himself and several people rushed to his aid.
McGrath has expressed his shock at the incident, saying “twenty more seconds and he was dead”.
The man, believed to be in his mid to late 30s, has now been taken to hospital for treatment.
