The other man's injuries are not believed to be serious. Paramedics treated him for minor injuries following the incident.
The incident occurred on the Dublin to Belfast line, according to RTÉ. The man was reportedly struck by the 20.50 train which was travelling from Dublin Connolly to Belfast.
It is believed the two men were on the tracks moments before the tragedy unfolded.
Following the incident, the line remained closed for some time, but it has since reopened.
Full services resumed this morning, September 15th, Irish Rail confirmed.
