Met Eireann reveals when the heavy rainfall is set to return this week

Get your umbrellas ready.

Met Eireann has figured out the exact day this week the weather is set to make a huge change and get a lot wetter.

With a terrible “low pressure” expected to hit the country this week, there will be a mostly dry start before the rain becomes unsettled.

Starting on Wednesday, the rain is expected to become much heavier in most counties, with most areas experiencing a downpour by Thursday which will continue into the weekend.

The national forecaster said: “Current indications suggest that Wednesday night and much of Thursday will be wet with rain in many areas. Further rain and showers will feed in from the Atlantic for Friday and the weekend.”

Today is set to be a cloudier day and dry in most places with only a few light showers in the afternoon while Tuesday will see outbreaks of rain gradually spreading across Connacht and Leinster.

By Wednesday, there will be even more rain and drizzle approaching the west of the country as it remains dry in the east with occasional showers, some being “locally heavy falls”.

On Thursday, we will see the rain clear in the northwest as it heads to the southeast and followed by mostly dry and sunny conditions, while Friday will see “clear and sunny for the most part although there may be a few stray showers about during the early afternoon.”
