Minister For Agriculture Simon Coveney Insists Irish Water ‘Won’t Be Abolished’

Ellen Tannam

Simon Coveney has said comments he made about Fine Gael and Irish Water were ‘misconstrued’ and the abolition of Irish Water is not likely.

RTÉ News reported that Coveney estimates it will take 4 to 6 weeks for a new government to be formed, and “people need to show some patience.”

He doubts that a government will be formed after a meeting tomorrow, saying the meeting will most likely have an ‘inconclusive’ result.

He is also ‘not a fan’ of the concept of a rotating Taoiseach, and spoke of the distrust between FF and FG both historically and presently.

According to Coveney, Enda Kenny’s leadership is not being questioned at this time.

Both of the parties are still speaking to smaller parties and Independents about other possibilities besides a grand coalition.
