Mother settles case after supposed misreported smear test results

She has settled the case.

A 39 mother has settled High Court action after finding out she had cervical cancer only two months after giving birth to her baby.

The unnamed mother brought their case to the courts after she and her husband believed smear tests she had done over a number of years had been inaccurately reported under the national screening programme, CervicalCheck.

The terms of their settlement are confidential, The Irish Examiner reports.

After she was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2016, a review was carried out on the smear tests she had done years previously, concluding that they had been reported incorrectly, with the mother alleging that there had been a failure to diagnose her pre-cancerous cells on time.
