Ellen Fitzpatrick

RIP.

A woman who sadly passed away over the weekend after getting into difficulty swimming with friends in Wicklow has been named locally as school teacher Lynne Freeman.

Gardaí and emergency services were called to North Beach, Greystones at around 12.30pm after three women, all in their 50s, had gotten into difficulty while out swimming.

It is believed that people in Greystones Sailing Club attempted to assist the women initially before emergency services arrived at the scene.

A surfer was also seen coming to the women’s aid before emergency services managed to rescue them but unfortunately, Freeman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body was taken to Loughlinstown hospital and a postmortem is due to take place.

A second woman has been taken to St Vincent’s Hospital to be treated for her injuries and later discharged while the third was treated at the scene by emergency services.

Freeman was a mum of two and a teacher at Ravenswell Primary School in Bray, with friends, family and colleagues offering their condolences on Facebook.

One person wrote: “RIP, heartfelt condolences and thoughts to the family”.

Another said: “So sad. May she RIP & may her family be hugely comforted at this very tough time.”
