Nurses at Galway University Hospital have voted in favour of industrial action.
The nurses at the hospital’s emergency department voted unanimously in favour as a result of overcrowding in the department.
According to the INMO, 100% voted in favour of a work-to-rule to begin on February 3rd.
“INMO members are gravely concerned for the well-being of patients at the Emergency Department of Galway University Hospital,” said Clare Treacy of the INMO.
“The level of overcrowding and staff shortages is impinging on nurses’ ability to provide safe, quality care.”
It has been reported that nurses will not perform any administrative, clerical or non-clinical tasks during the work-to-rule.
According to reports, management are said to also be considering temporarily closing 19 acute beds.
“The idea of closing beds in such circumstances is simply incredible and alarming,” continued Ms Treacy.
