Irish parents have been urged to stop letting their children use the Stitch Scented Highlighters immediately.
The retailer explained that the phthalates in the tip of the lid were at levels higher than EU regulation permitted levels.
The team stressed that there is a risk if ingested.
The four-pack of scented Stitch highlighters was sold in Penneys stores across Ireland between May 2024 and January 2025.
A spokesperson for the retailer stated:
"Primark® recalls DTR Stitch SL 4pk Scented Highlighters (Kimball no. 0688701).
"We are recalling our product Primark® DTR Stitch SL 4pk Scented Highlighters (Kimball no. 0688701). This product was sold in Primark® stores in Ireland between May 2024 and January 2025.
"We’ve learned the product does not meet our usual high safety standards," they explained.
"The product has been found to contain phthalates in the tip of the lid at levels higher than EU regulation permitted levels, and this may present a risk if ingested."
The retailer continued: "Please stop using the recalled product immediately and bring this product back to any Primark® store.
"No proof of purchase or receipt is needed."
3356 affected products were sold in Ireland, according to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.
Parents have been advised to return the product to their nearest Penneys store.
