Footballer Davitt Walsh was hailed as a national hero after saving baby Rionaghac-Ann from a sinking car that slipped off Buncrana pier last month.
The infant was the sole survivor of the tragedy, which claimed the lives of her father Sean McGrotty, Mark and Evan (his two sons), Sean’s mother-in-law Ruth Daniels, and her daughter Jodi Lee Daniels.
Walsh’s account of the events given to RTÉ News was watched all over the country, as a community grieved.

Donegal Sport Hub reported that Walsh made his return to football on Sunday afternoon, with his side Fanad United taking on Derry City Reserves.
Teammates and opposition gave Walsh a guard of honour as a mark of respect to the man who saved the life of the young baby on that tragic day.
A lovely gesture.
Walsh is running the Belfast Marathon today with Rionaghac-Ann’s mother Louise, who lost five family members in the tragedy.
