Go, go, go!

If you’re thinking of booking a holiday for this summer or autumn, now might just be the time to strike.

Aer Lingus is celebrating sixty years of transatlantic flights tomorrow, 28 April.

The Aerlínte Éireann Lockheed L1049 Super Constellation aircraft first left these shores for the states in 1958 with 99 passengers and a crew of 6 in 1958.

“Becoming an ‘air hostess’ was my dream job, it was always my number 1,” remembers 72-year-old Lily O’Connell from Leopardstown, a former Aer Lingus cabin crew member.

“I remember the Americans on board coming to ‘I-R-Land’, as they called it, they were so excited to be meeting their Irish family connections for the first time.

“For Irish people flying home – they had saved for months for the airfare as they were so expensive back then so it was just lovely on board, everyone was in great spirits.”

Planning a holiday? Aer Lingus is doing a serious offer right now

To mark the anniversary, Aer Lingus is offering customers €100 off direct flights from Shannon and Dublin to a load of destinations in the US and Canada right now.

The offer is valid on flights between 16 June and 31 October.

It means you can fly Dublin to Toronto from as little as €189 euro, Dublin to Miami from €238 and from Shannon to New York or Boston from €238.

The fares are on an each-way basis as part of a return trip and include taxes, charges and admin fee

There’s no rush on you to decide a destination straight away (though the longer you leave it, the more you’ll likely pay) as the offer is running until midnight next Monday week, 7 May.
