Police arrest former hotel security where Michaela McAreavey was killed

Detectives investigating the murder of Michaela McAreavey have arrested a former security guard at the hotel where she was murdered.

According to The Mirror, lawyer Vikash Teeluckdharry said that his client Dassen Narayen has been questioned in relation to allegations of theft at the Legends Hotel in Mauritius that occurred around the time the Tyrone teacher was killed there in 2011.

He noted that the suspect has denied any wrongdoing. When the initial investigation into Michaela’s death, Narayen was initially charged with conspiracy to murder.

The charge was later reduced to a larceny charge which was then struck out in 2013. His lawyer said that Narayen was questioned about the same charge on Thursday.

He told reporters: “He was questioned under warning. He was detained. He was arrested.”

Narayen was taken to hospital during his detention and was being treated for health issues on Tuesday night and Teeluckdharry claimed that police had suggested that there had been development made in the murder case.

Insisting his client is innocent, he said: “This is all nonsense. There is nothing new.

“He’s denied this from day one and it’s the same situation.”

Michaela McAreavey was murdered in January 2011 after she was strangled in her hotel room in Mauritius during her honeymoon with her husband John McAreavey.

The 27 year old had only been married for 10 days before she was attacked in what is believed to be a robbery gone wrong.
