They are looking into all outcomes.

Police in Mauritius are currently investigating if the death of the witness in the Michaela McAreavey case is somewhat linked to her killer.

The lawyer representing Michaela’s family, Dick Ng Sui Wa has revealed that the passing of Raj Theekoy, a key witness to the murder, is “very surprising” since the new review of the case began earlier this year.

The witness’s body was found at a wasteland in Beau-Plateau, Goodlands, Mauritius, on Sunday and foul play has not been ruled out in his cause of death.

Ng Sui Wa told the Irish Mirror: “The police are not treating it outright as a suicide. They are investigating any possible links with his role as leading witness in this matter.

“This is a very sad case that happened and I can assure you that the police are inquiring about possible foul play. It is too early to tell at this stage.

“But they are having an open mind and are investigating the matter.”

While he did not know if Theekoy has learned of the new investigators reviewing the case, he was adamant that he will continue to get justice for Michaela.

Michaela McAreavey was murdered in January 2011 after she was strangled in their hotel room in Mauritius during their honeymoon.

The Tyrone woman had only been married for 10 days before she was attacked in what is believed to be a robbery gone wrong.

It is said that Theekoy’s wife reported her husband missing on Saturday, with his body being found the following day.

Theekoy had worked as a cleaner at the Legends resort in Mauritius where the couple had been spending their honeymoon before Michaela’s tragic death.
