Police have issued an update after an Irish woman was found dead on a yacht in New York.
Martha Nolan-O’Slatarra, 33, was found dead on a docked yacht at the Montauk Yacht Club in East Hampton, Long Island, on Monday night.
In a statement by local police yesterday, they said that an autopsy 'did not show evidence of violence and her final cause of death is pending further examination'.
A police spokesperson previously revealed that emergency services attended the scene after receiving a call regarding an 'unconscious woman'.
“East Hampton Town Police responded to a 911 call from a man reporting a woman unconscious on a boat docked at the Montauk Yacht Club, on Star Island Road, at approximately 12am. Good Samaritans attempted to perform CPR on the woman.
“Martha Nolan-O’Slatarra (33), of Manhattan, was pronounced dead on the boat by first responders.
“The preliminary investigation and exam were inconclusive regarding the cause of death, which will be determined by an autopsy conducted by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office," they continued.
Homicide squad detectives and Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office continue to investigate the death of Carlow-born fashion designer who moved to the US in her early 20's.
Additionally, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade told the Irish Independent it was aware of the case and was providing consular assistance.
Montauk Yacht Club, a popular lakefront club located on the north coast of East Hampton, commented on the tragic death of the young woman.
“We are saddened to learn of the tragic incident that took place. Our team is cooperating with law enforcement in their ongoing investigation and remains committed to the safety and well-being of our guests and staff. We have no further comment at this time.
“As with all consular cases, the department does not comment on the details of individual cases,” said a spokesperson from Montauk Yacht Club.
The Irish woman was a successful marketing consultant, entrepreneur, and founder of the fashion brand East x East. She moved stateside when she was 26 to pursue her career.
She was living on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, and in her latest TikTok she had been celebrating her brand’s pop-up store on a beach in the Hamptons.
The young woman studied commerce at UCD and completed a Master’s in digital marketing at Smurfit Business School.
Investigations are ongoing.
