Rapper Nelly has been arrested in Washington state after he was accused of raping a woman on his tour bus.

Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., was taken into custody after police investigated the woman’s claims. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, hours after Nelly performed a concert in Washington’s White River Amphitheatre.

TMZ is reporting that the woman has said it was specifically Nelly who raped her. The report also suggests that the 42-year-old is still in custody at the time of writing.

Nelly’s lawyer has weighed in on the second-degree rape charge, telling TMZ: “Nelly is the victim of a completely fabricated allegation. Our initial investigation, clearly establishes the allegation is devoid of credibility and is motivated by greed and vindictiveness.

“I am confident, once the scurrilous accusation is thoroughly investigated, there will be no charges.

“Nelly is prepared to pursue all all legal avenues to redress any damage caused by this clearly false allegation.”
