An international rugby player has been charged in relation to an alleged assault at a Dublin nightclub three years ago.

According to RTE, Samoan star Alesana Tuilagi was arrested by gardaí at Dublin Airport this morning after he arrived “by appointment” on foot of a European Arrest Warrant and appeared before Dublin District Court this afternoon.

Detective Inspector Tony Howard told the court that Mr Tuilagi had been charged in connection with an alleged assault on Dublin’s Harcourt Street in April 2011.

He was remanded on bail to appear before the court this October and Mr Tuilagi, who recently joined the Newcastle Falcons rugby team, provided an address in the UK.
