School Children Taken To Hospital After School Bus Flips Over

Forty eight school children were taken to hospital this morning after the bus they were travelling in collided with a car just after 8am this morning.

The bus was on its way from Castlederg, Co. Tyrone, to a secondary school in Omagh, and reports state that the bus ended up turned over on its side in a field as a result of the crash.

The collision happened near the village of Drumquin this morning.

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Ambulance service told the Belfast Telagraph: “Around 50 secondary school children were treated at the scene for injuries not believed to be serious.

“Some of the minor injuries included banging their heads off bus windows.”

The injured pupils and the occupants of the car were brought to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry and South West Acute Hospital in Fermanagh.

A spokesperson for the Western Education Board stated to the Derry Journal: “Thankfully, there appears to be no major injuries. The safety and wellbeing of pupils is the WELB’s main concern and the Board continues to liaise with PSNI, Translink and both hospitals.”
