It has been almost two decades since the conviction of Adnan Syed for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee in Baltimore Maryland, but media attention has been swirling around since the debut of Serial in the Autumn of 2014.

The podcast has turned everyone into armchair detectives, so when the news broke that Syed would be returning to court for a post-conviction hearing that could give him a new trial, fans were very curious.

Now the mysterious Asia McClain, who played a vital role in the podcast and changed a lot of people’s minds about Syed’s conviction has spoken to US talk show Good Morning America.

Adnan’s alibi witness spoke to the show about why she came forward after many years.

“I was compelled by my children. Keeping that legacy, integrity, and stepping up to tell the truth was very important to me,” she said. “I want my kids to know their mom was strong.”

If you remember, Asia had a strong alibi for Syed saying he was in the school library with him at the time of Lee’s murder.

“I hope that enough information was presented to the judge for him to be able to make a rational decision,” she said. “Whatever that might be, is in his hands.”

She also left a message for Syed.

“I would just personally apologize that I didn’t come forward in 2010,” she said, of when the defense lawyer reached out to her to testify.
