A six-year-old boy was reportedly rushed to Tallaght Hospital in Dublin last week after being pricked by a dirty needle on a Dublin City bus. According to The Herald, the young boy was travelling on the 66B bus towards Maynooth. The needle is understood to have been left on the seat of the bus. The boy was taken to Tallaght Hospital while the other passengers were reportedly moved to another bus. “It’s a nightmare for any parent to go through,” Lucan councillor Liona O’Toole told The Herald. “My thoughts are with the parents of the child and what they are going through now...Whoever left the syringe on the bus was a very irresponsible person,” she continued. “I would like to think the CCTV cameras were in good working order to get evidence. As a mother of three children myself, I’m very concerned. I hope the child is alright.” Dublin Bus later confirmed the news. “Emergency services attended the scene and the passenger was taken to Tallaght Hospital,” a spokesperson stated. “The incident is currently under internal investigation. “There are very strict protocols in place when dealing with incidents such as this, which the driver followed...There are also strict maintenance and cleaning procedures in place.” The spokesperson added that it was “a rare occurrence” and that there had been a decrease in anti-social behaviour thanks to a number of new measures that had been implemented for the safety of customers.
