A man in Florida has been refused the right to marry his mac. Chris Sevier says he fell in love with his computer, which stores his entire porn collection and preferred "having sex with it over all other persons or things".
Mr Sevier argues that if gays should be allowed to marry, then so should other sexual minorities, and proposed to the judge that he should be allowed recognise his relationship with the technology device.
Speaking to a court in Florida, the man told them:
“Over time, I began preferring sex with my computer over sex with real women.
“If gays have the right to “marry their object of sexual desire, even if they lack corresponding sexual parts, then I should have the right to marry my preferred sexual object”,
Mr Servier also argues that if gays feel as if they are second class citizens, then “those of us in the real minority, who want to marry machines and animals, certainly feel like third class citizens”.
Mr Sevier cited legal precedents around the world - including a case where a woman married a dolphin and a Chinese man wed a cardboard cutout of himself – but his claim was rejected before the courts.
The judge dismissed the case outright, telling the court:
"Perhaps the motion is satirical. Or perhaps it is only removed from reality. Either way, the motion has no place in this lawsuit."
