Brazil’s female footballers to be paid the same as men

Brazil's female footballers will be paid the same as men soon, becoming one of the only countries in the world to introduce gender pay balance in the sport. Brazil FA announced the news today, stating that from next year's Olympics, its female footballers will be paid the same as their male counterparts. "The CBF has equalled the prize money and allowances between men's and women's football, which means the women players will earn the same as the men," said the FA's president Rogerio Caboclo. "It will be proportionally the same as what FIFA proposes for women, that is to say, there will be no more gender difference in remuneration between men and women." Australia, Norway and New Zealand are among the few nations paying their female footballers the same as men. Brazil will join them next year, ensuring all teams participating in the Olympics and upcoming World Cup tournaments achieve equal pay. The teams will also receive equal prize money in any tournaments. This comes after the US women's football team sued their federation, US Soccer, following claims of discrimination over pay and conditions. Their case was dismissed before they eventually appealed it. They are seeking $66m in damages under the Equal Pay Act.
