Storm Hector

Yes, that’s right. A STORM in the middle of June.

Just when we were all getting accustomed to the fabulous weather, it turns cloudy, overcast and a storm warning is announced.

The storm expected to hit tonight has been named as Storm Hector with Met Éireann sharing the latest update via their social media accounts.

Two weather warnings are in place ahead of the storm – a Status Orange wind warning for Donegal, Galway, Mayo and Sligo and a Status Yellow wind warning for Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, Roscommon, Clare and Kerry.

Early indications suggest that the north and west of the country will be worst affected but you can check the national forecaster’s website for full updates here.

The Road Safety Authority has warned motorists to take extra care ahead of tonight’s hazardous conditions, with the possibility of objects being blown onto the road.

There is a risk of flooding too with the RSA issuing warnings via their Twitter account.
