Teenager dies following road collision in Laois

The collision took place this morning.

A male teenager has passed away following a road incident in Co Laois this morning.

According to RTÉ, the teenager was in his late teens and was a pedestrian.

The collision involved a van and took place at 7:30am on the N80 at Clonsoghey.

He was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise where he subsequently passed away from his injuries.

The driver of the van is said to be uninjured.

A post-mortem exam on the young man will take place at a later date, and a forensic examination of the scene is underway.

The road is currently closed.

Gardaí are currently appealing for any witnesses to the crash to come forward. They are particularly appealing to road users who may have dash cam footage.
