The Mormons are coming – this December!

The dates for Dublin run of The Book of Mormon have just been announced. The musical is coming to the Board Gáis Energy Theatre in December 2020 for an exciting four-week run.

The show will open on Tuesday, 9 December 2020 and run until Sunday, 3 January 2021.

And you can book your place this week, with tickets going on sale via Ticketmaster and the Bord Gais Energy Theatre website from 10am this Friday, 13 March. Prices start from €26.

There has been great excitement across the city since signs appeared in recent weeks announcing that the Mormons would be headed to Dublin. The hit show does not just hold appeal for musical theatre lovers, as many South Park fans will also be clambering to see it.

The show was written by South Park and Team America creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, along with Robert Lopez who co-created Avenue Q.

That line up should give you an idea of the tone of The Book of Mormon, which is a satirical take – to put it very mildly – on the lives of young Mormon missionaries.

The story follows two missionaries, the charming, high-achieving Elder Price and sweet but awkward Elder Cunningham who get sent to a remote village in Uganda to spread the word of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I saw the show in London and it’s packed with ‘I can’t believe they can get away with saying that’ jokes that will leave some audience members crying with laughter and others of a more sensitive disposition unimpressed. In my case, my ribs were sore by the interval, while an older couple seated near to me didn’t come back for the second half. Probably not safe for your granny.

The musical debuted on Broadway in 2011, and has won awards for its sell-out shows across the US, London and Australia.
