The weather is getting worse and here’s what to expect over the next few days

The weather is about to get even worse.

Storm Deirdre arrived on Saturday and it was a day for the ducks proving problematic for those who had planned to do their Christmas shopping (hands up, yes me).

While yesterday was a relatively decent day, that’s about to change yet again for there is now a nationwide wind warning in place (broken down into separate warnings).

There is a wind warning for Munster, Connacht and Donegal from 1 pm until 4 am Tuesday morning and if you’re in any of those areas, you can expect “south to southeast winds will reach mean speed at times between 50 and 65km/h and gusts between 90 and 100 km/h”.

There is a second wind warning for Leinster, Cavan and Monaghan with this one in place from 7 pm until 9 am tomorrow morning.

This means “south to southeast winds will reach mean speeds at times between 50 and 65km/h and gusts between 90 and 100 km/h”.

Oh and overnight, there is going to be a LOT of rain too.

According to Met Éireann:

“Rain will turn heavy in the west and slowly spread eastwards with the risk of spot flooding. South to southeast winds will increase further to reach gale force on all coasts. Later in the night winds will veer southwest and moderate over the western half of the country”.

More of the same for Tuesday.

“Heavy rain over Ulster and Leinster on Tuesday morning followed by a clearance from the west to scattered showers and some sunny spells later. Some of the showers will be heavy with the risk of hail or thunder, especially in the west”.

And yeah, it’s not changing anytime soon.

“Showery conditions for much of this week, some heavy or more frequent and with the risk of hail or thunder. However, a spell of persistent rain on Friday will clear later to scattered showers”.
