There’s a 7ft unicorn coming to Dublin and we’ll have no shame about being the first in line for photos

Leslie Ann Horgan

Dear Santa we’ve been very good girls this year… So please bring us a 7ft unicorn – and one for our friends too!

Arnotts gave Her a sneak peek at its Christmas offering recently, and oh what fun there is in store for kids of all ages. The department store has teamed up with iconic New York toy store FAO Schwarz to bring a festive wonderland to Dublin.

Currently under construction in the basement, this is just the fourth FAO Schwarz outlet in the world and the store’s managers say that they intend for it to be a place where people can “come in and be wowed and play”. The wow factor will come courtesy of an interactive clock tower that puts on a show every hour, a huge giraffe and a giant piano that’s exactly like the one from Big – so start practising your Chopsticks.

And there will be added magic from the unicorns of our your dreams, one sitting and one standing, which measure 7ft each. We’re not even going to bother borrowing a child for appearance’s sake – we’ll be straight in there for the Instas.

The unicorns haven’t landed in Ireland as yet, but Her did get to meet (and cuddle) Albert – the ginormous teddy bear who arrived in a box from New York last week. We’re thinking of swapping out our beds for a giant teddy. A definite remedy for those days we have the fear, although getting up in the morning may be even more of a challenge…

For those who want to shop as well as play, the store will offer FAO favourites such as classic wooden toys, tea sets, trains and plush animals. There will be a station where kids can design and build their own race cars, and a baby adoption centre where a nurse will help your little one find their perfect littler one.

For tech lovers and budding scientists, there will be STEM learning toys from Discovery and Sharper Image robots, including a dinosaur that you can train as your pet.

It all sounds like our literal Christmas dreams come true. But hey, they had us at 7FT UNICORNS!!!
