Thousands of homes have been left without power in Ireland after overnight storms

Olivia Hayes

Have you been left without power?

Around 2,000 homes and businesses have been left without power this morning after rain and thunder hit the country overnight.

Met Éireann had a weather warning in place across the whole country, however the areas most affected were the south and east.

ESB Networks has been trying to resolves the issues – if you want to keep up to date with their progress you can check out this page.

The overnight rain and storms will have a knock on effect over the country today, with heavy showers continuing into the afternoon.

Met Éireann said: “Remaining heavy overnight rain affecting northern parts of the country will soon clear this morning giving way to bright or sunny spells with showers today. Some of the showers will be heavy and prolonged with thunderstorms and a risk of hail.

“There is potential for flash flooding and poor visibility in localised downpours. Humid, and feeling warm in any sunshine, with top temperatures of 18 to 22 degrees Celsius.

“Rather windy in the south and east, with moderate to fresh and gusty southeast winds overland, strong to near gale at the coasts, but winds will be generally lighter elsewhere.”

Stay safe.
